This patient came with old broken class IV composite related to tooth #11. There was no caries or any decalcification around the restoration. Therefore, the decision was made to do a composite repair to restore the shape and shade of the tooth that match the neighboring tooth.

The shape and the shade is off.

The restoration is reduced axially and keep it as a palatal wall supporting composite layers later on. Irregular enamel BEVEL was made for better blending.

-Clear translucent composite mesially to imitate the translucency effect on the other tooth. -Opaque dentin composite to hide the grayish shadow by preventing the light passing through. Also to enhance the chroma.

Enamel composite to provide the "value" effect. One can notice the combined effect of chroma and value together would provide the final correct shade!

Imagine that the translucent composite was not placed, what would be the result?!

It is vital to imitate the texture and the light reflection of the neighboring tooth.
